Subject: Halal Ice-Creams
Question: Are your ice-creams 'halal'? (Certified permissable for Muslim consumption)
Answer: Our ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet do not contain any animal based products, but they are not certified Halal. Most of our products contain vanilla extract or extract for natural flavorings, which contain trace amounts of alcohol. We believe any amount of alcohol in our products would keep them from being Halal. We hope this information helps you to make a decision whether or not to try our products.
Mannn, if I knew this a long time ago, I wouldn't have gone there in the first place. Really! So to my muslim friends, please avoid eating there, alright?
Here's something extra for you guys:
Therefore, when such a situation exists, as stated in Al-Ashbâh wa An-Nazâir by Al-Imam As-Suyuti, shara' has determined, "When there exists both the halal and the haram, then it is the haram that is graver and should be better checked."
As-Suyuti has given many examples, among them, "Should doubts exist between slaughtered animals and carcasses, or cow’s milk and donkey’s milk, or water and urine, then it is not permissible (not halal) to use even a little of it."
With regard to the ruling on doubtful matters, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam has clearly said in his ahadith (traditions), "Avoid that which is doubtful to you, (and) take what is not doubtful to you." (Hadith narrated by Nasâ‘i and others)
Rasulullah also says, "Verily what is lawful is evident and what is unlawful is also evident (clear), and in between them are the things doubtful which many people do not know. So he who guards (himself) against doubtful things keeps his religion and honor blameless. And he who indulges in doubtful things indulges, in fact, in unlawful things. Just as a shepherd who pastures his animals round a preserve will soon pasture them in it. Beware, every king has a preserve, and the things Allah has declared unlawful are His preserves. Beware, in the body there is a piece of flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt the whole body is corrupt; know that it is the heart." (Hadith narrated byBukhari and Muslim)
