The sun was only beginning to set when Bob was searching for his house keys at the doorstep. It was a long day at school and the thought of lying on the sofa watching movies on HBO was well deserving. He called out for his mother hoping she would open the door instead, but then he found his keys and opened the door. Fuck. He instantly covered his mouth and nose as he took a step backwards. There was a heavy scent of sweet lavender coming out from the inside. He called out for his mother again.
Bob pushed the door opened and found the floor with purple-coloured air fresheners everywhere. That was when he saw a big cardboard box with a shiny red ribbon bow-tied on top of it. It definitely looked like a present and the house seemed strangely empty. Where was everybody? As he got closer to the box, he noticed a greeting card on top of the box which he didn't quite see earlier. He called out his mother for the third time.
Bob held the card and read, "Happy Birthday!" It was his birthday today and he was glad somebody remembered, but who? He should be expecting a dozen of people to come out behind the doors and surprise him with a chocolate cake and nineteen burning candles sticked into it, but no.
Bob continued reading the card, "Guess where is your mom?" Could she be in the house? He recalled he called her three times but there were no answers. She must be hiding somewhere in this house. There was nothing left in the card to read so he thought it was time to open the box and see what was inside. He untied the ribbons and placed them nicely on the chair beside the box. By now, he was feeling a little bit giddy from the lavender scent. Placing both of his hands on the lid of the box, he opened it fully.
Suddenly he gasped and started to tremble. To his horror, he found his mom inside the box, all chopped up into pieces and there was a note in between the head and the leg, saying, "We have your dad too."
That explains the heavy dose of lavender.
